Gate to the Shofukaku Tea Ceremony House

When heading north along the Kakuozan Road and passing through the middle of a quiet residential area, you will come across the gate to our Kyoto-style tea ceremony house.

Nestling amidst a 5,000 square meter estate, the restaurant boasts a main room one-hundred and twenty tatami mats in size, more than twenty other rooms of varying sizes, and wonderful panoramic views of a Japanese garden through the windows.

Century-old cherry-blossom trees, succulent green leaves, the dew moistening rocks transported from the Kurama region of Kyotoc Amidst this serenity reflected back throughout the four seasons, you are sure to find the levels of inner peace and satisfaction of which we are all in constant quest.

The Shofukaku Restaurant was founded in the Kakuozan area of Nagoya in the year 1934, and has been in operation now for more than seventy years. It is considered to be one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city of Nagoya.

The building was constructed in accordance with an ancient and time-consuming method, in which the garden is laid out before work is started on actual construction. Following this rule, it took approximately eight years for Shofukaku to be completed. The building has been put to the test several times since then, with the Second World War and the Ise Bay Typhoon, but in a testimonial to the craftsmanship involved in Japanese architecture, it stands as sturdily today as it ever did and continues to attract customers.

The interior of the building still retains the commemorative taste of bygone days in its beauty reminiscent of the Heian Dynasty and in its latticed ceilings. The building stands on approximately 5,000 square meters of land and consists of about thirty small and large rooms, and we are extremely proud of the way in which the building that houses the tea ceremony room is harmonized perfectly with the garden.

The cuisine we offer centers around our Kyoto-style gKaisekih (tea-ceremony) set meals, but also includes tempura and sushi. We also have a western style lounge providing an atmosphere that is perfectly relaxing to the soul.

We are recently highly-acclaimed as a location for wedding receptions. The placing of tables and chairs in the Main Room and other rooms to create banquet halls has also been favorably received by our customers.
